Empowering young people through music, creativity, and climate activism (2023–2026)

Overview
Growing Green Music offers a wide range of musical and creative opportunities for young people from across County Durham. With a focus on wellbeing, creativity, sustainability, and skills development, this project nurtures confident, creative, and socially engaged young people.

Partnerships
Our key partners include Music at the Heart of Teesdale, St John’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College and the Youthsayers Band.

Activities

  • Collective Music MakingFridays, 5pm–7pm (ages 12+)
    Our youth band Jazzy Dystopia writes, rehearses, records, and performs original music.

  • Latin American Carnival MusicTuesdays, 6:30pm–8pm (ages 10+)
    Join Get Set Samba and perform at carnivals and parades with samba reggae grooves.

  • Brass Ensemble Development
    An exciting new brass project that brings young players together with top professionals to explore a dynamic fusion of brass traditions.

Impact
Alongside music-making, participants receive support through mental health check-ins, mentoring, and career guidance. Opportunities include youth leadership roles and co-producing our major annual festival.

B.O.P. Fest
One of our flagship annual events is a family-friendly, youth-led music festival celebrating climate action and sustainability. It is designed and delivered by the Jack Drum Arts Youth Board.
