Year of the King

Year of the King is one of seven national projects funded by Spirit of 2012 through it’s Moments to Connect programme.

Year of the King has used the Coronation of King Charles III as a catalyst to bring people together across generations, taking inspiration from King Charles’ passion for youth empowerment and the environment.

The project launched with a series of intergenerational workshops offering a wide range of participatory and voluntary opportunities to schools, day care centres, and community groups, with participants creating visual artworks to be showcased in a Community Carnival on Monday 8th May 2023. The Carnival led into a free Gala event, held at Crook Cricket Club.

After the Coronation, two intergenerational legacy groups were formed, meeting regularly throughout the rest of 2023, working with artists to create work for a free public exhibition at Willington Open Door Church from Saturday 20th Jan - Thursday 25th Jan.
